Rebeca Moreno

“As Associate Dean for International Education, I am one of the first school officials to greet our new international students when they arrive on campus. I lead Washington College’s campus internalization efforts by working with faculty and staff to develop and promote study abroad, international student programming, and campus events. Additionally, I oversee the development and management of GEO’s international exchange programs portfolio, faculty-led short-term programs, and the virtual Global Classroom initiative. In this role, I collaborate with the provost to increase interest, support, and involvement in international education among students and faculty. By creating and supporting international curricular and co-curricular offerings, I facilitate our students’ growth as global leaders.” 

Rebeca Moreno started working in global education as Faculty Director of the University of Maryland’s Short-Term Programs in Seville and Havana. She also served as the assistant director for UMD’s Community-Service Learning program in Santiago, Chile. Rebeca received her B.A. in public communication from the Universidad de Puerto Rico, Río Piedras, her M.A., and her Ph.D. in Spanish from the University of Maryland, College Park. 

Her research focuses primarily on Hispanic Caribbean literature and cultures. Her areas of interest include literature and law, the African diaspora and Afro-Caribbean studies, and cultural materials produced under colonialism in early and contemporary societies in the Spanish Antilles. For her book project tentatively titled: Critical Edition and Translation of Francisco José de Jaca´s Resolución, she was awarded an Academy of American Franciscan History grant in the fall of 2020 and the 2022 MACLAS Wladyslaw Maryan Froelich Research Grant. 

Dr. Moreno has experience teaching all levels of the Spanish language and undergraduate and graduate courses in Latin American literature and culture.
